Mahindra pickups will assembled in Alabama by next year

Hardly has a little truck hauled so much of baggage before. It has been plenty of years waiting for Mahindra’s T40 and T20 pickups for finally making it to US. There has been a dispute between the Mahindra & Mahindra and its former U.S. Importer – GV USA. The London arbitrators took a long time to settle it and the dealers have filed suit against both of them. GV USA ran out of business in the month of September and hence it might take a couple of years now to see the T40 and T20.
But if you believe the people at the Mahindra Planet, ” Unofficial Mahindra U.S. Source of News,” say that Mahindra will start making trucks in US by 2012. You heard it right, they won’t just sell it there, but will also make it. The sources are unnamed and this prediction relies on the connection of Mahindra with Navistar, an international bus and truck maker which recently leased big factory complex in Alabama, Muscle Shoals.
Navistar and Mahindra do have an operation together in India and Mahindra Planet says that they have been working together since the year 1963. Navistar says that they will be having 2,000 more people working at Alabama complex by the year 2015 but they haven’t given us any clue about what they will build at that place. Mahindra Planet says they will be T40 and T20 and CEO of Mahindra did say earlier in this year that Navistar was a US potential partner.
It looks to be totally speculative but if Mahindra is indeed building at factory of Navistar, then it will also well established Navistar’s distribution channels. Even if all this is true, you will still need to wait for a long time. Apart from the fact that complex of Navistar was set up recently for building a small amount of rail cars, Mahindra has yet to file paperwork with EPA for the year 2012 trucks and hence the automobiles aren’t likely to be seen before 2013.
